Canada Soccer Official: Hoilett Injured, Watman Steps in for Copa América Squad

Early on June 17, Canada Soccer released a statement announcing that Watman would replace the injured Hoilett in the Copa América squad.

The 34-year-old winger, Hoilett, plays for Scottish club Aberdeen and has previously represented Canada 63 times, scoring 16 goals. Unfortunately, he suffered an injury prior to the tournament, ruling him out of the competition.

Watman, 28, is a central defender currently playing for Montreal FC. He made his international debut for Canada in November 2022 and has only earned three caps for the national team so far.

Canada is placed in Group A of the Copa América alongside Argentina, Peru, and Chile. Their opening group match will be against the reigning World Cup champions, Argentina.
