According to German newspaper Bild, Hungarian goalkeeper Gulácsi confidently stated in an interview that Hungarian fans will transform Stuttgart into a virtual away game for Germany during their second match.
In their opening match against Switzerland, Hungary lost 1:3, but Gulácsi’s impressive saves earned him the respect of both opponents and fans. Failing to secure points against the host nation Germany would put Hungary on the brink of elimination. Ahead of the clash with Germany, Gulácsi told Bild that Hungarian supporters’ enthusiasm would make Stuttgart feel like a home game for Hungary.
“Our fans have pulled out all the stops to get tickets for this match,” he said. “I believe it will be like an away game for Germany. For weeks now, there has been tremendous football excitement in Hungary, and we are delighted to see it. The fans’ support gives energy to the national team, and I can feel that. It motivates me.”
After a convincing 5:1 win over Scotland in their opening fixture, Germany had a dream start. However, Hungary, their next opponent, presents a stiffer challenge than Scotland. Although they lost their first match, Hungary seemed to take time to settle in and eventually showed their true quality in the second half. As such, Germany will face a much more difficult task in overcoming this resilient opponent.
