The South African Premier Division has announced that it will officially implement the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system starting from the 2024-25 campaign.
Due to an increasing number of controversial decisions in recent years, there has been growing pressure from clubs and fans for the league to adopt VAR. This push was further supported by the renowned South African referee Victor Gomes, leading to the decision to introduce the technology next season.
Currently, only a few African leagues, such as the Egyptian Premier League, have incorporated the VAR system.
