Former England international Micah Richards has endorsed Chelsea’s pursuit of Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise.
Chelsea attempted to sign the 22-year-old last year, but complex clauses in his previous contract posed issues for the club. Subsequently, Olise penned a new deal at Selhurst Park, and it is now believed to include a release clause of around £60 million.
However, Chelsea has yet to discuss personal terms with Olise or his representatives. The club is awaiting the right moment to strike the best possible deal, though other teams are also said to be interested, including Newcastle United, Manchester United, and Bayern Munich.
Olise had an impressive campaign for Crystal Palace in the 2023/24 season, despite being hampered by injury issues. He missed half of Palace’s Premier League matches but still managed 10 goals and six assists in 19 appearances. His performances were so noteworthy that Richards claimed he would become “world-class” in the future. However, the ex-England defender also cautioned potential suitors about the need to nurture him correctly to unlock his full potential.
Richards said on “The Rest is Football” show, “He’ll be a world-class player. He’s just one of those young players that needs to be guided the right way.”
