On the evening of June 20, local time, Italian football legend Baggio was watching Italy versus Spain in the Euro Championship when his home was invaded by robbers. In the ensuing struggle, he sustained a head injury. Now, having survived the harrowing encounter, Baggio has shared his account in an interview.
According to reports, the incident took place during the Italy-Spain match, with Baggio at his residence in the southwestern area of Vicenza. Apparently, due to several individuals entering and exiting the property before the game, the intruders’ arrival didn’t trigger any alarm systems.
During the event, Baggio physically confronted one of the assailants, but was then struck on the forehead with the butt of a gun, resulting in a deep wound. After the assailants fled, Baggio was taken to a local emergency room, where he received stitches for the head injury. His family was also severely shaken by the experience.
Recalling the incident, Baggio said, “I reacted instinctively because I saw my family in danger, and I wanted to protect them.”
At the time, Baggio’s wife, two sons, and mother-in-law were also present and deeply traumatized. He added, “When I was hit, I felt powerless. Thankfully, aside from fear, physically, I only needed stitches and had a few bruises. It’s a moment I need to overcome, and now what remains is anger.”
