According to the British media outlet Football Insider, Saudi Arabian Airlines is interested in competing for the position of Chelsea’s front-of-shirt sponsor, but Chelsea still hopes to expand the range of competition.
On a Football Insider podcast show, Keith Wyness, former CEO of Everton and currently running a football information agency, revealed to the media that Saudi Arabian Airlines is looking to enter the competition for Chelsea’s shirt sponsorship.
He said: “Saudi Arabian Airlines will be competing with Riyadh Air and other airlines. In recent years, Emirates has been the top sponsor in football, with the most extensive routes. I believe this is an excellent opportunity for Saudi Arabian Airlines to expand its routes. Since Chelsea’s headquarters are in London, close to Heathrow Airport, I think Chelsea would expect a bidding process from which they would benefit. Therefore, Chelsea will certainly try to involve more competitors. Also, I believe Saudi Arabian Airlines has the financial capability to meet Chelsea’s demands, but such an investment would be worthwhile for the Saudis.”
Previously reported by The Athletic (The TA), in September last year, Riyadh Air offered a sponsorship of 60 million pounds per season, but no agreement was reached.
