On August 25, Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson spoke with Paul Joyce of The Times in the UK, stating that he had received offers from Saudi Arabia this summer but rejected them. He also discussed his future and Liverpool’s decision to sign Mamardashvili.
In the interview, Alisson said: “I have a contract, and I want to fulfill it or sign a new one. I am very happy at Liverpool. My family is happy too. I never talked about salaries and such. There was just interest from Saudi Arabia. But when you hear about the huge salaries other players are getting, you’re slightly attracted, and that’s normal.”
“Personally, I am open, but now is not the time (for a transfer), now is not the time to leave. I am focused on Liverpool, and as long as I have a contract here, I will be focused here. If the club is interested in negotiating with me, that would be another situation.”
When discussing Liverpool starting to look for his successor, Alisson commented, “The club needs to prepare for the future. We can’t stay here forever, I’m getting older! I think signing Mamardashvili is a good idea. I knew about it before I saw it on social media, which is a good signal for me because the club cares about my opinion. But I think they did the right thing.”
