American Women's Soccer Legend: Without Sam Kerr, Australia Has No Chance at Olympic Gold in Women's Soccer

July 24: Recently, American women’s soccer legend Julie Foudy expressed controversial views about the Olympic women’s soccer tournament, claiming that the Australian women’s team has no chance of winning the gold medal in this year’s Olympic women’s soccer event.

As a two-time World Cup and two-time Olympic champion, Julie played a total of 274 games for the U.S. national team, scoring 54 goals. She was also the first American soccer star to receive the FIFA Fair Play Award.

Speaking to reporters, she said, “I think they can advance from their group, but without Sam Kerr this time, and with the absences of Caitlin Foord and midfielder Katrina Gorry, they have no chance of winning the gold. They don’t have enough squad depth to help them achieve that.”

In January of this year, Australia’s top forward Sam Kerr suffered an anterior cruciate ligament rupture and is still recovering. The Chelsea women’s soccer legend unfortunately missed out on this year’s Olympic Games.
