Argentina’s Deputy Minister of Sports Calls for Apologies from AFA President Tapia and Captain Messi to France

According to TYC Sports, regarding the incident where players like Enzo sang a song with discriminatory content against French players, Argentina’s Deputy Minister of Sports, Julio Garro, commented that such behavior was “detrimental to the country’s image.”

Enzo is facing an internal disciplinary review by Chelsea over allegations of racial discrimination, while FIFA will also investigate the matter.

As the situation escalated, the Argentine Ministry of Sports called on the national team captain Lionel Messi and AFA President Claudio Tapia to publicly apologize for the inappropriate content in the song targeting France.

In an interview, Garro emphasized, “The captain of the national team should come forward to apologize, and the president of the football association must also take responsibility. This incident tarnishes our nation’s honor, especially at a time when we have achieved such great success, it is even more important to present a positive image.”

He further pointed out, “Issues like this may occur occasionally in schools, clubs, or everyday life, but in the world of football, precedents for taking the initiative to apologize are rare. Now is the time for society to see that the football world can also bravely admit mistakes.”

According to reports, the Argentine Ministry of Sports has absolutely intervened in the controversial incidents involving Enzo and the national team.

Chelsea and FIFA have already launched investigations into the matter. In an official statement, Chelsea clearly stated, “The club does not tolerate any form of discrimination; we are proud to be a diverse organization where everyone, regardless of cultural background, community affiliation, or personal identity, feels a sense of belonging.”

The club also mentioned, “We appreciate the public apology from the player and view this as an educational opportunity.” However, they announced, “An internal disciplinary process has been initiated,” without specifying what punishment Enzo might face.

FIFA has also paid close attention to the matter, stating in its statement, “We have noticed the circulation of related videos online and are currently investigating the incident.” At the same time, FIFA reiterated, “We firmly oppose any form of discrimination, and all players, fans, and officials should abide by this principle.”
