On August 31, Arsenal officially announced the loan move of Chelsea forward Sterling to the team. Arsenal’s sporting director, Edu, spoke about this transfer in front of the cameras.
Edu stated, “Honestly, we did not plan to sign him (Sterling) when the transfer window opened. For various reasons, we considered similar possibilities. So when this opportunity came up, I reviewed our current squad, evaluated the player’s performance, and of course, had discussions with Arteta.”
“In addition, I talked to Vice Chairman Tim about this matter, to see if everyone was satisfied with the actions we were about to take, and it is very worthwhile.”
To date, the 29-year-old Sterling has played for four clubs in his career—Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal, and Chelsea—becoming the second person to do so after Anelka.
