June 30 – According to Spanish outlet AS, newly-promoted Saudi Pro League side Al-Qadsia, after securing Real Madrid defender Nacho, are now targeting Atletico Madrid striker Alvaro Morata for a move to the Arabian Peninsula.
Martell, who is currently at a Saudi club and was the sporting director when he signed Morata for Real Madrid in 2008, is known to be a big fan of the Spanish forward. Morata had his best goal-scoring season, netting 21 goals, with 15 in the league, 5 in the Champions League, and 1 in the cup. However, his form dropped towards the end of the season, leading to him losing his starting spot.
“It’s also true that I’m not the coach or the club’s first choice. They can tell me what the press is saying, but nobody at the club has told me about my situation. I’m old enough to maybe need more game time and look for something new,” Morata openly admitted in a previous interview.
With Memphis Depay officially leaving Atletico, the club is on the hunt for new forwards. Atletico has offered €25 million for Girona’s top scorer Dovbik, though Girona is unwilling to sell for less than €40 million. Other forwards like Jonathan David and Maxime Bell are also on Atletico’s radar. However, Morata aims to remain a starter and plans to understand the club’s plans after the conclusion of the Euros before deciding on his future.
