After securing one win and a draw in the first two Euro matches, England has not yet guaranteed qualification. Former England international Ashley Cole recently offered his suggestions to manager Gareth Southgate in an interview.
Speaking to beIN Sports, Cole said, “I’d like to see Gordon come in and play on the left, with Foden on the right. I think it’s unfair how he’s being judged at the moment. The last game could be an opportunity for Saka to rest, allowing Foden to showcase his abilities on the right and prove how good a player he is.”
“I believe Foden’s struggles are due to playing out of position. People expect him to be world-class and adapt everywhere, and that’s true, but judging from his performances at Manchester City, I still want to see him back on the right where he’s more comfortable.”
Regarding the midfield, Cole commented, “In the middle, I’d like to see either McNeil or Palmer in the number 8 role, playing more forward passes and dominating possession in midfield. They could bring a fresh dynamic.”
