Badminton Men's Singles_ Final: Shi Yuchi Falls to Thailand’s Kunlavut Vitidsarn, Fails to Reach Semifinals

On August 3rd, in the quarterfinals of the men’s singles badminton event that took place in the early hours of this morning, top-seeded Chinese player Shi Yuchi lost 0-2 to Thailand’s Kunlavut Vitidsarn and failed to advance to the semifinals.

In the first game, Shi Yuchi started slowly, being continuously dominated by his opponent Kunlavut. Despite a late surge in scoring, he lost the first set 12-21 due to numerous return errors, putting him down 0-1 in the match.

In the second game, Shi Yuchi still could not regain his form; the quality of his returns was visibly subpar, with repeated out-of-bounds shots, falling behind 1-11 against his opponent. After a brief timeout, Shi Yuchi managed to score three consecutive points through frequent tactical adjustments, narrowing the gap to 4-11. However, his opponent quickly adjusted and continued to suppress Shi Yuchi’s defense, leading 16-5. Eventually, Shi Yuchi, lacking any momentum, lost the second set 10-21, thus losing the match 0-2 in a surprising upset.

Previously, Chinese player Li Shifeng was eliminated in the round of 16. With Shi Yuchi also exiting at the quarterfinal stage, Chinese players are now out of contention for a medal in the men’s singles badminton event.
