Bayern Sports Director: Discussions of De Ligt's Transfer to Manchester United Are Premature; Player Must Be Respected

Famous German Sky reporter Florian Plettenberg reports that Bayern Munich’s sports director, Max Eberl, has addressed the current media speculation in Germany and the UK regarding a potential transfer of Matthijs de Ligt to Manchester United. He stated that it is currently too early to discuss this matter.

The Bayern sports director said, “Matthijs de Ligt’s transfer to Manchester United? If the right time comes, I will talk about it in the future. But now is not the time. Matthijs (de Ligt) has performed very well over the past two years, which is why many fans like him. However, you must consider how to make decisions and also consider what the young man himself thinks.”

According to German Sky, Bayern and Manchester United are currently negotiating the transfer fee. Bayern insists on demanding 50 million euros plus variable fees, and there is some disparity between the two clubs, making negotiations very difficult.

The Bayern director noted, “Currently, de Ligt is still a Bayern player. As long as he remains so, he will have our full support.”

The 24-year-old de Ligt has experienced two super-high-price transfers. In July 2019, he joined Juventus from Ajax for approximately 85.5 million euros including variables. Then, in July 2022, he moved from Juventus to Bayern Munich for 67 million euros (figures according to Transfermarkt). During his time at Bayern, de Ligt played in 53 Bundesliga matches and scored five goals.
