On September 19, FIFA officially released the latest national team world rankings, with the Chinese men’s football team slipping to 91st place globally, marking the lowest ranking since March 2016.

The Beijing Youth Daily commented that due to the Chinese men’s football team facing multiple tough battles in the upcoming 18-team round of World Cup qualifiers, and currently having only slightly more than one point more than Syria, which is ranked 14th in Asia. Under such circumstances, the national team’s world ranking may continue to fall, potentially dropping out of the top 100.

Historically, the lowest world ranking for the Chinese men’s football team was in March 2013, when the team was ranked 109th globally.
