Benfica President Rui Costa discussed the team’s rising star, Neves, stating that top clubs including Manchester United, Arsenal, and Paris Saint-Germain are pursuing him, but the club will not insist on a €120 million release clause to let him go.
The 19-year-old Neves is a future star of Portuguese football. In the 2023-24 season, Neves played in 55 matches for Benfica, contributing three goals and two assists, and also participated in Euro 2024 with the Portuguese national team. Paris Saint-Germain has offered €70 million for Neves, and both Manchester United and Arsenal have shown interest in him. Neves’ release clause stands at a high of €120 million.
Benfica President Costa stated, “I have never said that we must activate the release clause to sell Neves; we have a specific evaluation plan for him. So far, Neves remains a Benfica player, and I do not want to hide anything about his situation. I know that the fans are very concerned. As for the transfer situation regarding Neves, it is still under negotiation. Please allow me to maintain a reserved stance on this transfer for now, considering what would be most beneficial for the team.”
