Bordeaux is one of the most successful clubs in French football, having won a total of six Ligue 1 titles, four Coupe de France titles, and the Intertoto Cup in 1995.

Throughout its history, the club has seen many star players such as Zinedine Zidane, Jean-Pierre Papin, Eric Cantona, Didier Deschamps, Christophe Dugarry, Bixente Lizarazu, Bruno Michel, Gérard Tigana, Sylvain Wiltord, and Yoann Gourcuff. However, the club has been in a poor financial state in recent years.

In early July, Bordeaux failed the financial review conducted by the oversight agency and was temporarily demoted to the National 3 league. The club immediately announced an appeal. After various efforts, the club’s shareholders ultimately concluded that it would be difficult to reverse the current unfavorable situation in time and thus reluctantly accepted the penalty. As a result, they will have to bid farewell to professional football in the upcoming season.
