According to official news from Hurst Pierpoint FC, former England international and Manchester City player Gareth Barry has joined the team and will represent them in the 11th division league this new season.
The announcement reads as follows:
We are delighted to announce that former England international and Premier League appearance record holder Gareth Barry has joined our club.
Gareth Barry has had a long-standing connection with the village through his good friend and our coach Michael Standing. So, involving him with the football club seemed like an obvious choice.
The quality of his training is incredible, so we are all very excited to see him don the shirt and light up the pitch at Fairfield later this season. Welcome to Hurstpierpoint, Gareth!
Barry, now aged 43, announced his retirement in August 2020 and is making a return to football four years later. Barry came through the youth ranks at Brighton and played for Aston Villa, Manchester City, Everton, and West Bromwich Albion during his career.
