Centenarian Club Suffers Heavy Blow! Bordeaux Official: Club Files for Bankruptcy Restructuring and Relinquishes Professional Team Status

On July 26, according to an official statement from Bordeaux FC, the club has applied for bankruptcy restructuring with the local court, which will result in the loss of its professional team status.

Following the confirmation that the French football financial regulatory body, DNCG, had demoted the team to the National 1 level, the club filed for bankruptcy with the Bordeaux Commercial Court on Tuesday to initiate the necessary restructuring. Consequently, the court will soon announce the commencement of collective proceedings, which will automatically lead to the club losing its professional status.

Therefore, considering the upcoming new season, the club has had to abandon its request to maintain its professional status, as its budget did not meet the requirements. This was a difficult decision, and the ongoing restructuring process is expected to inevitably have consequences. Although the training center will close, the club will continue to promote its youth teams.

According to previous reports, due to being unable to pay player salaries and other staff wages, Bordeaux was forced to cut expenses. As of June 30, the club had a deficit of 4 million euros.

Bordeaux FC was founded in 1881 and has won the Ligue 1 title six times and the Coupe de France three times. The 21/22 season saw them relegated from Ligue 1 to Ligue 2, and last season they finished 13th in Ligue 2 with 14 wins, 9 draws, and 15 losses.
