Chinese Super League Preview: Three Towns Aim to Avenge Opening Round Defeat at Home, Haigang Eyeing Back-to-Back Wins to Strengthen Top SpotOn June 25th at 8 pm, in the 16th round of the Chinese Super League, Wuhan Sanzheng host Shanghai Haigang. Sanzheng, playing at home, seek revenge for their opening round loss; Haigang, with a nine-match winning streak across two competitions, are looking to secure a double victory and maintain their lead on the table.

In the first half of the season, Wuhan Sanzheng achieved a record of five wins, three draws, and seven losses, placing them eighth in the standings with 19 goals scored and 24 conceded, showing average performance in both attack and defense. In their previous seven home matches, Sanzheng managed two wins, one draw, and four losses, ranking tenth in home performance, scoring only six goals at home.

Shanghai Haigang, on the other hand, remain unbeaten after 15 rounds, with 12 wins and three draws. Their 48 goals make them the top scorers in the league, while their defense, conceding 15 goals, ranks second-best. In their eight away games, Haigang have won six and drawn two, topping the away standings as well.

Wuhan Sanzheng’s forward Henrique has scored nine goals in 15 rounds, ranking seventh in the scoring charts, demonstrating his individual prowess. Despite Sanzheng’s exit from the FA Cup, Henrique had a commendable performance. Shanghai Haigang, having faced a lower division team in the cup, allowed their foreign players and Wu Lei to rest, with Gustavo and Wu Lei combining for 27 goals in the first 15 rounds, ensuring a strong attacking output.

Wuhan Sanzheng ended their losing streak by defeating Qingdao Xihai 1-0 in their last CSL match, but their elimination from the FA Cup dampened morale. At home, Sanzheng have suffered consecutive losses against Shandong Taishan and the relegation battlers Meizhou Hakka.

After eliminating Guangxi Hengcheng in the FA Cup, Shanghai Haigang have won nine straight matches across both competitions. Away from home, they have recorded a seven-game winning streak, scoring an impressive 26 goals in those matches, averaging nearly four goals per game.

In their five previous encounters, Shanghai Haigang hold a 3-2 advantage over Wuhan Sanzheng. In the 2022 season, they lost both fixtures to Sanzheng, but in 2023, they exacted revenge with a reverse double. In the first round of this season, Haigang triumphed 3-1.

Hosting this time around, Wuhan Sanzheng aim to avenge their opening round defeat, while Shanghai Haigang can consolidate their position at the top of the table with another win over their opponents.
