After 27 rounds of this season’s K League, Gangwon FC continues to top the league table, and head coach Yoon Jong-Hwan is gaining increasing recognition from fans.
Yoon Jong-Hwan took over Gangwon FC in late June last year, and initially faced significant challenges in team cohesion, winning only one out of the first 12 matches he led. By the end of the first 29 rounds of the K League in August 2023, Gangwon FC languished at the bottom of the table with a poor record of three wins, twelve draws, and fourteen losses.
Fortunately, the Gangwon FC management did not lose faith in Yoon Jong-Hwan and decided to give him more time. The team eventually secured their relegation survival through the play-offs.
In this season, Yoon Jong-Hwan’s training of Gangwon FC has finally paid off. Although their defensive record of conceding 40 goals in 27 games is not impressive, they have scored a league-leading 51 goals, and currently sit atop the league with fifteen wins, five draws, and seven losses, accumulating 50 points, four points ahead of second-placed Gyeongju Sangmu.
