On September 23, official news announced that Tony Popovic has been appointed as the new head coach of the Australian men’s national football team.
The 51-year-old Popovic has previously coached several A-League teams, including Western Sydney Wanderers, Perth Glory, and Melbourne Victory.
In the first two rounds of the 18-team tournament, Australia lost 0-1 to Bahrain and drew 0-0 with Indonesia, after which coach Graham Arnold announced his resignation.
According to the schedule, Popovic’s debut will be a home match against the Chinese men’s national football team.
