Donovan's Hair Transplant Gone Wrong, Exposed During Live Euro Coverage

Former US national team player and MLS star Mike Magee took to Twitter to jokingly comment on the hair of ex-Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen, and US soccer legend Landon Donovan, who is currently a guest commentator for Fox Sports’ Euro coverage.

Donovan confided in Magee via private chat that he underwent a hair transplant surgery two weeks ago. His doctor had advised him against appearing in front of cameras during this phase. However, with his commitment to Fox Sports for the Euros, Donovan found himself on air with his “work-in-progress” hairline, his limited new growth contrasting starkly with his shiny scalp.

Social media users poked fun at Donovan with comments like “Just give up, it’s hopeless,” “This hair transplant specialist seems to have a specialty in sideburns,” and “Please tell me sincerely, where exactly did they plant the hair, on his head?”

At 42 years old, Donovan played for Leverkusen from 1999 to 2005 before joining LA Galaxy, Bayern Munich, Everton, and others. He made 157 appearances for the US national team, scoring 57 goals, tying him with Clint Dempsey as the all-time leading scorer. After retiring in 2019, Donovan coached a team in California before transitioning to a TV pundit role with Fox Sports in 2022. His struggle with hair loss has been evident over the years, culminating in his decision to undergo transplantation. Despite the less-than-ideal timing, Donovan’s situation has provided some amusement for fans tuning into the Euros.
