The Dutch Football Association officially announced that former Dutch international player and coach, Johan Neeskens, has passed away at the age of 73.
Neeskens is considered one of the best football players in Dutch history. With Ajax, he won the Eredivisie title twice, the European Cup three times, and lifted the UEFA Super Cup twice. Additionally, he won the Spanish Cup once with Barcelona.
After becoming a coach, he served as an assistant coach for Australia, the Dutch national team, Barcelona, and Galatasaray, gaining coaching experience across various regions.
Prior to his passing, Neeskens had been feeling unwell, but unfortunately, medical intervention was not effective.
He participated in two World Cup finals with the Dutch national team, in 1974 and 1978. In both tournaments, they lost in the final, to West Germany and Argentina respectively, with him scoring the first goal from a penalty kick against Germany (2-1).
