On October 9, the Eastern Sports Daily published Zhao Zhao’s column article titled “Once Again, It’s Time for the Red Devils to Make Mistakes.” The article mentions that regardless of whether Ten Hag stays or leaves, Manchester United will face a difficult season ahead.
The article states that the focus of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s and the Glazer family’s meeting with club legends may not entirely be on discussing Ten Hag’s future.
Compared to the massive investment in the new stadium plan, the departure or retention of a head coach may not be as crucial as imagined. At least, Manchester United’s decision-makers cannot truly determine that a new manager would be a panacea.
Moreover, the author analyzes that the best time to replace Ten Hag might have been at the end of last season. This way, Manchester United would have had ample time to allow the new manager to carefully plan and rebuild the team.
However, since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement, it is highly questionable whether Manchester United has ever made such a decisive move. The Glazer family clearly prioritizes commercial interests over team reconstruction, and Sir Ratcliffe’s involvement does not seem to have had the effect of “setting things right.” Sir Ratcliffe’s actions still fall far short of what Red Devils fans expect.
To change or not to change, Manchester United is once again at a moment of trial and error.
