Effenberg: Bayern’s Perfect Start Due to Weak Opponents; Stiffer Tests for Kompany Ahead

Up to this point in the season, Bayern has won all six of their matches, with a goal difference of 33:5. The Bundesliga giants have started the new season in an impressive manner, scoring 20 goals within just one week. However, according to Effenberg, the team should think more about the problems they might encounter when facing stronger opponents.

In his column for German Sport One, Effenberg wrote: “For Bayern, there will still be stronger opponents with higher quality players in both the Champions League and the Bundesliga. Bayern’s high pressing works well against opponents with a significant gap in strength, but their playing style leaves a lot of space for the opponents. If the opponents can bypass the first two lines of the high press and successfully control the ball, then the large spaces in Bayern’s midfield and defense could be exploited.”

Effenberg emphasized that as a dominant team, Bayern should continue with their proactive and aggressive style of play. He continued: “Bayern is showing a good trend, with players playing the kind of football that Kompany wants them to play. Additionally, strong individual performances have played a decisive role in the team’s success. I sense a desire to score goals that was not present during the Tuchel era. Everyone hopes to score continuously in games, rather than focusing solely on the result.”

The upcoming opponents for Bayern include Bayer Leverkusen, Aston Villa, Eintracht Frankfurt, Stuttgart, and Barcelona, marking the beginning of Kompany’s initial tests at the helm of a top club.
