Ferdinand: England could try Saka at left-back if injury issues persist

After a victorious opening match in the Euros, England has been hit by injuries, with left-back Luke Shaw remaining on the bench throughout and stand-in Trippier picking up an issue during the game. The team is in dire need of a reliable left-back.

In an interview today, Ferdinand shared his thoughts, suggesting, “If Trippier and Shaw are both unavailable for the Denmark match, England might face a problem. We could give Saka a go at left-back. If I were in charge, I’d definitely opt for Saka there.”

“The advantage is that once we have possession, Saka would revert to a left-forward. You’ve seen the trouble he causes opposing defenders, and he’s not just about cutting inside – he’s excellent with his passing and control on the outside too,” Ferdinand added.

Saka himself has spoken about playing at left-back for Arsenal, saying, “It’s not my natural position, but Arteta gave me the guidance I needed. I learned how to deal with opposition forwards, how to position myself. I can create space, contribute as a winger when we have the ball, and practice my clearances, headers, and things I hadn’t done before. I think I’m doing alright.”
