Former Australia Coach Arnold: Resigned Due to Fatigue with the Job, Aiming to Lead Another National Team to World Cup Glory

On October 31, former Australian national team coach Arnold gave an interview, discussing the reasons for his resignation.

During his tenure as head coach of the Australian national team, Arnold led the team in 57 matches, winning 39 of them, achieving a win rate of 68%, and elevating Australia’s world ranking from 56th to 22nd.

Arnold explained the reasons for his resignation: “I am an honest person, so I cannot tolerate lying to the players. I was not 100% committed to this job, and I did not enjoy it, so I could not deceive the players; they could all sense it.”

Arnold continued: “I believed we would win the Asian Cup, but our elimination in the quarter-finals was a heavy blow. Following that, we achieved six consecutive victories in the second stage of the World Cup Asian qualifiers, scoring 22 goals without conceding any. In this situation, I tried to convince myself to continue as head coach, but my intuition told me that I was tired of continuing as the head coach of the Australian national team. If you lack the passion to continue coaching, you should step aside and make way for someone who can do better. So, I chose to leave to ensure that the new head coach would have enough time to integrate with the team.”

Arnold discussed his future goals: “I still believe I can achieve a lot, such as coaching another national team and helping them break through to the World Cup, or coaching a club team in Asia.”
