The French Football Federation has confirmed that Kingsley Coman has departed the national team camp ahead of the Euro 2024 quarter-finals. He has traveled to Sweden to be present for the birth of his fourth child, which might cause him to miss the quarter-final match.
Throughout the tournament, Coman’s presence in the French squad has been subdued, with only one substitute appearance during the group stage match against the Netherlands. The Bayern Munich winger had struggled with injuries towards the end of last season and has since been battling fitness issues. Despite recovering in time for the Euros, he failed to convince Didier Deschamps, the head coach, of his readiness.
Before the 1-0 victory over Belgium in the round of 16, Coach Deschamps opted not to field traditional wingers like Coman. Following the match, the FFF announced that Coman has left the national team’s training camp to join his wife in Sweden for the arrival of their fourth child. A return date has not been set, and it remains a significant uncertainty whether he will be available for Friday’s quarter-final fixture against Portugal.
