According to the French media outlet BeFootball, the European Commission announced during today’s meeting that FIFA’s regulations regarding international transfers of professional football players hinder the free movement of players and competition among clubs, thus deeming them invalid.
This means that players can now unilaterally terminate their contracts at any time and join another club. The immediate consequence of this is the end of the transfer market, as players will no longer be considered assets of the clubs.
Foreign media outlets are calling this a seismic shift in football, comparable to the Bosman Ruling.
