J.League Second Division's Second-to-Last Kumamoto United Announces Construction of Team Clubhouse in Preparation for Top Division License

On the 30th of this month, J.League Second Division team Kumamoto United officially announced that they will be constructing a club-exclusive clubhouse at their training base, with an area of approximately 35,000 square meters. The estimated total construction cost is 550 million yen (approximately 27 million RMB).

However, currently, Kumamoto United ranks second to last in the J.League Second Division with a temporary record of 6 wins, 8 draws, and 19 losses, trailing by as many as 10 points from escaping the relegation zone. With only five rounds left in the league, hopes of relegation survival are slim. In the last round of the league, Kumamoto United won 3-0 against Mito HollyHock at home despite being one player short, extending their theoretical relegation survival hope, but still failing to boost the confidence of fans. In the 34th round of the J.League Second Division, Kumamoto United will challenge strong team Yokohama FC away from home. If Kumamoto loses away and both Oita Trinita and Ehime FC win, the team will be relegated in advance.

Regarding the newly built clubhouse facilities, Kumamoto United cited two reasons: firstly, “as a professional club, developing training environments is crucial for strengthening the team,” and secondly, “developing training facilities is one of the challenges for obtaining a J.League license.” From the construction progress perspective, so far, the clubhouse facilities have only confirmed the corresponding planning and land permits, and it is expected that the project will not be completed until April 2025, by which time Kumamoto United may already be competing in the J.League Third Division.
