K League 1 Preview: Lingard Aims to Shine Again! Seoul FC Haven't Beaten Jeonbuk Hyundai in Years

On June 29 at 18:00, K League 1 Matchday 20 sees Jeonbuk Hyundai take on Seoul FC. Currently, Jeonbuk Hyundai are at the bottom of the league table, while Seoul FC sit in 6th position.

In their last home game, a 2-0 victory over Gangwon, former England international Jesse Lingard finally scored his first goal in Korea and was named in the Team of the Week. Seoul FC have recently enjoyed a two-match winning streak in the league, and they have kept clean sheets in their last three matches across all competitions.

Jeonbuk Hyundai’s coaching change hasn’t yielded results. After recruiting Kim Doo-hyun from Chinese Super League club Chengdu Rongcheng, the team’s performance has not improved. Since the former assistant coach at Chengdu took over in late May, Jeonbuk Hyundai have gone six league games without a win, drawing two and losing four. They’ve won only one of their last 11 K League 1 fixtures (4 draws, 6 losses).

Historically, Jeonbuk Hyundai have a favorable record against Seoul FC. In 21 K League 1 matches and 2 Korean FA Cup encounters over the past seven years, they remain unbeaten against Seoul (17 wins, 6 draws). They’ve lost just once in their last 16 home matches against Seoul (11 wins, 4 draws).

The last meeting between the sides was in April, when Jeonbuk Hyundai came from behind after conceding two goals to secure a 3-2 victory with two late goals.

Seoul’s recent victories have come at home, and they’ve drawn their last three away K League 1 matches. This match will be their fourth fixture in 10 days, and playing away, fitness could be a significant challenge. It’s worth noting that Jeonbuk Hyundai have also seen a majority of draws in their recent home games, with four draws and one loss in their last five home fixtures, and seven draws in their last 10 home matches overall.
