Kane: Final Not About Golden Boot Race with Olmo, Hope to Secure First Trophy

Prior to the Euro final, England’s captain Harry Kane expressed his anticipation for winning the title. The final in Berlin not only offers Kane a chance to secure his first major trophy in his career but also marks England’s opportunity to vie for a significant title since the 1966 World Cup.

Kane emphasized the significance of reaching the final again: “It’s proof of our remarkable consistency. Many of us were deeply disappointed after the last final, but as we’ve always done, we’ve come a long way and made it back here. It’s not easy. Credit must be given to the players who have shown immense resilience. This demonstrates the unity of our team, and we’re thrilled to be here, participating in the Euro final once again. Naturally, we’re eager to go further than last time.”

Speaking about the importance of the match, he said: “I believe that winning the Euros would mean everything for England. I’m sure it will be an incredible experience for professional footballers, and I equally believe that for the fans, they will share this historic moment together. It’s going to be something special. The loss in the last Euro final was painful, so we’re driven with desire to ensure this game unfolds as we wish, yet we’re aware that it will be a challenging night.”

In terms of preparation, Kane revealed: “We are well-prepared, and we’ll have a few tactical meetings before the game. Everything will hinge on the details, which we’ve been working hard to address throughout the tournament. We need these details, especially in a final.”

Regarding the race for the Euro Golden Boot against Spanish player Olmo, Kane commented: “This isn’t a personal competition between him and me, but of course, I hope England wins. While preparing for these matches, we sometimes exchange thoughts and motivate each other. But ultimately, what matters is performance on the pitch, and I’ll focus on that.”

Reflecting on the defeat in the previous Italian final, Kane stated: “Losing any final is unforgettable. I’m someone who learns from failure and tough times. Though that moment was difficult, it was three years ago, and much has happened since then at both national and club levels, so I’m delighted to be on this stage again. We’ve endured a tough journey to get here, and now our task is to execute our game plan. We’ve performed well in many major tournaments, but now is the time to break through. We have the opportunity, and now is the time to cross that line.”

Speaking about potentially securing his first title, Kane said: “I don’t think people should overthink it. I know what it means to me personally and to our country, so I have that goal in my heart and use it as motivation to strive for success. Of course, I’ll watch match videos, and when I arrive at the stadium, I’ll see passionate fans, but I think it’s hard to fully grasp what’s happening in England. I’m sure it will be an incredible experience, and I’m happy to be part of it.”

Lastly, Kane also sent birthday wishes to Gavi, the 17-year-old Spanish prodigy: “Happy birthday to him (laughs). He plays with freedom and fearlessness. He will be one of the opponents we need to particularly watch out for because he’s a very talented young player. It’s incredible that he’s on such a stage at just 17.”
