Klopp: I Don’t Know How to Please Everyone, Took Red Bull Job Because I Didn’t Want to Be a Coach

Former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has taken on the role of Global Football Director at Red Bull, a move that has drawn criticism. Now, he has responded.

“To be honest, I don’t know how to please everyone. I don’t want to hurt anyone, and I still have a lot of love for my former club,” Klopp said in an interview with the podcast hosted by brothers Toni and Felix Kroos.

Klopp is renowned for his passion for football, leaving a significant mark wherever he has coached, from Mainz to Borussia Dortmund and then Liverpool. However, many believe his philosophy does not align with Red Bull’s approach to running football clubs.

Red Bull has invested in multiple clubs worldwide, rebranding them to match the company’s image, including changes to club emblems and kit colors. Klopp’s decision has been met with strong disapproval from fans of his former club, Borussia Dortmund, who have criticized him on social media. Fans of Mainz also displayed banners against Klopp during a match against RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga.

Previously, Klopp announced his departure from Liverpool, citing feelings of “exhaustion.” His acceptance of a new role with Red Bull just six months after leaving Liverpool came as a surprise to many.

In response, Klopp explained, “I’m 57 years old, and I can work for a few more years, but I no longer want to stand on the touchline as a head coach. However, I clearly didn’t want to idle either. Red Bull offered me a great opportunity.”

Regarding his new role, Klopp elaborated, “My main responsibility is as an advisor. I hope to provide a calm perspective when it’s appropriate and help coaches make the right decisions.”

“But I won’t overstep, because I know that could cause inconvenience. Instead, I will share my experience and provide support in areas where I excel.”
