Today, La Liga has announced updates to its rules for the 2024-25 season, with some notable changes.
One of the focal points for fans, La Liga has decided not to implement goal-line technology for the upcoming season. Last season saw several controversial incidents involving potential goals not being awarded, and while clubs and supporters alike had hoped for the introduction of goal-line technology this season, financial considerations have led to its continued absence.
However, La Liga has adopted concussion substitution rules, similar to many other leagues. If a team’s player sustains a concussion or head injury, the team will be allowed a sixth substitution.
Additionally, two rule changes in La Liga have been inspired by international competitions, including the ongoing European Championship. The league will introduce semi-automatic offside technology, and to minimize clashes between players and officials, next season’s regulations stipulate that only the team captain will be allowed to communicate with the referee during the match.
