Lehmann's Claims Disputed! Kroos Says He Doesn't Speak for Germany, Yarmal: Let's See If We're Short and Naive

Recently, former German goalkeeper Jens Lehmann sparked controversy with his comments about the Spanish national team during an interview.

Lehmann stated that Spain is “too small and inexperienced, like a youth team.” This view contrasts sharply with the general praise for the Spanish team in Germany and has led to pushback from both Spanish and German players.

Lehmann, who played for clubs like Borussia Dortmund and Arsenal, made pointed remarks about Spain’s height and experience, using them as grounds to question their strength. With an average height of 1.82 meters, Spain is one of the shortest teams in the Euro Cup.

His comments were swiftly countered by German midfielder Toni Kroos, who declared, “Lehmann doesn’t speak for all German players. The Spanish team has already shown its experience and ability. They are a formidable team, and Lehmann is wrong. We have a clear understanding of this.”

Kroos emphasized that Spain’s performance is far from the “short and immature” portrayal given by Lehmann, highlighting their maturity and resilience instead.

Additionally, Spanish player Yarmal also responded to Lehmann’s remarks, saying, “That’s his personal opinion, and he’s entitled to it. But we won’t be bothered by it. We’ll prove everything on the pitch. Whether we’re ‘small’ or ‘naive,’ the matches will give the answers. His words help us more than they do Germany.”

Yarmal’s words exude confidence, indicating that the Spanish team has no intention of being swayed by external opinions and is ready to respond to doubts with their on-field performance.
