According to L’Equipe, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe will appear before the Judicial Committee of the French Professional Football League (LFP) on September 11th to address the player’s claims of unpaid wages.
Kylian Mbappe has submitted a claim to the LFP alleging that PSG owes him part of his salary and bonuses, totaling 55 million euros. If no amicable resolution is reached, this dispute could be referred to court.
PSG, however, argues that Mbappe agreed in the summer to waive 80 million euros, although no formal written agreement was signed. Mbappe himself acknowledged this so-called “gentleman’s agreement” after winning the Super Cup on January 3rd, stating, “My future at PSG is not important right now; what matters most is winning titles and ensuring the interests of the club and all stakeholders.”
However, Mbappe never confirmed this agreement in writing to PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaifi. This agreement was reportedly made on August 12th, 2023, prior to the first Ligue 1 match, which led to Mbappe’s return to PSG’s first team.
Since Mbappe announced in February that he would not extend his contract with PSG, relations between the two parties have deteriorated, leading to a series of disputes and ultimately resulting in Mbappe leaving the French capital.
PSG believes that Mbappe must accept the financial terms of his departure. Although the club states that negotiations are ongoing, they are not progressing smoothly. As a result, Mbappe, through his agent, has lodged a claim with the LFP for 55 million euros in unpaid wages and bonuses.
On September 11th, both parties will present their positions before the LFP’s Judicial Committee. If the LFP deems Mbappe’s complaint valid and no agreement is reached, the case may be referred to court for further proceedings.
