Li Yu'er on Not Fouling at the End: Coach Instructed to Foul, but Might Have Been Too Late & Stunned

In last night’s women’s basketball group match of the Paris Olympics, the Chinese women’s basketball team narrowly lost 89-90 to the Spanish team after overtime.

After the game, Li Yu’er, center for the Chinese women’s basketball team, spoke to the media about not fouling at the end:

“We had already set up a tactic during the timeout, which was to foul after they scored and then have them shoot free throws, giving us another chance. But in the end, it might have been too late, or perhaps I was stunned for a moment on the court.”

Head coach Zheng Wei of the Chinese women’s basketball team told the media that the Chinese players were too far away from the opponents, so they couldn’t foul in time.
