Despite Kane’s goal that gave Southgate’s side an early lead, the lack of control exhibited by the Three Lions led to a frustrating stalemate with no real excuses. This result left English supporters and analysts disappointed, with the legendary striker Lineker providing a detailed assessment of Kane’s display.

On the BBC’s Match of the Day program, Lineker commented, “To be honest? I think Harry Kane needs to do more. He doesn’t offer much movement, let alone dropping deep effectively. It’s like he’s strolling around lazily! His runs are labored, and that doesn’t help the team.”

Using his own experience as a forward, Lineker explained the importance of a striker’s role: “As a striker, you have two jobs. Firstly, obviously, scoring goals, which Kane has done consistently well throughout his career. But I think his coach needs to tell him, ‘Harry, I want more from you.’ If I were Kane, I’d want that challenge.”

Lineker continued, “Against a back three like Denmark’s, he needs to stretch the defense, make runs to create space, maintain distance from the defenders, and look to connect with midfielders. With his leisurely drifts back, he doesn’t put pressure on the defense, so he doesn’t get the ball. The main issue is that he’s not creating room for himself. And, to be fair, he’s never been a player who constantly leads the line. But now, the situation demands more movement into the channels to open up space for late-running midfielders.”
