On July 23, Macron gave an interview to France Télévisions, discussing the efforts made by France and the city of Paris in hosting the Olympics, as well as the work done by the French Olympic Committee and the national sports department in terms of competitive results. Macron said, “I’ve seen the British analyst team’s predictions for the medal table, which puts the French delegation third. This gives us pressure. Claude Astesana (a senior manager at the French National Sports Agency) and his team have done outstanding work. Over the past seven years, our investment in sports has been unprecedented. We’ve poured a lot of money into improving training conditions, supporting our high-level athletes with higher incomes and returns, thereby boosting performance. There was a time when many of our high-level athletes’ earnings were below the world average, but that issue has been resolved before these Olympics.”

Looking ahead to the French delegation’s performance at the Paris Olympics, Macron said, “Astesana led the team in making many reforms, and they’ve done their best. With the home advantage, we must aim to be in the top five on the medal table.”

Previously, based on predictions from the British Gracenote company, the French delegation is expected to win 60 medals at the Paris Olympics, including 27 gold, 21 silver, and 12 bronze. This would place France third on the medal table, behind the United States and China.
