According to British media reports, since the start of the Euros, the podcast collaboration between football legends Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer has seen a significant increase in views, particularly when they criticize the English national team. Their earnings have surged, with Euro-related content alone generating £125,000.
Besides Lineker and Shearer, the trio includes Richards, as they analyze Euro matches together. Following England’s 1-1 draw against Denmark in the group stage, Lineker and Shearer’s harsh criticism of Harry Kane, the team, and manager Gareth Southgate sparked a media frenzy.
Nonetheless, the podcast’s popularity has also been lucrative for Southgate, with statistics indicating that since the start of the Euros, Lineker’s podcast has earned £125,000. For every 1,000 views, Lineker earns £45, or £15 if the sponsor is affiliated with him.
With a surge in views, listens, and downloads, Lineker’s income has significantly increased. However, this hasn’t sat well with the England players, especially Kane, who has responded directly to Lineker’s comments.
Despite England’s bumpy group-stage performance, they now face Slovakia in the Round of 16. If they progress, external criticism of the team might subside.
