The Manchester Evening News reports that Manchester United are stepping up efforts to sell Victor Lindelof this summer.
Lindelof will turn 30 next week, and his contract expires next year. In fact, the current transfer window represents United’s last chance to offload the central defender.
A source indicates that United are “pushing hard” to sell the Swedish captain, who joined the club from Benfica in 2017. Due to two lengthy injury layoffs, Lindelof made only 28 appearances last season, the lowest number of games he has played in a single campaign for United.
Another United center-back, Harry Maguire, signed a new one-year deal on Friday, but Ten Hag could face a shortage of experienced center-backs for Monday’s opening preseason friendly against Rosenborg. Raphael Varane confirmed his departure last month, while Lisandro Martinez is expected to play in Sunday’s Copa America final for Argentina. Maguire has returned to preseason training after recovering from a muscle injury, and Lindelof also reported back for preseason training on Monday.
Most players at United whose contracts expire next year are now viewed as available or must-sells. The club is in talks with Marseille over the sale of Mason Greenwood, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka can also leave. Offers for Christian Eriksen, among others, are being considered by United.
