Manchester United Employ Various Measures to Keep Players Injury-Free but Still Suffer Serious Injuries in Pre-Season

According to The Athletic, Manchester United devised a plan to prevent injuries during the pre-season, but things did not go as planned.

Ten Hag had made meticulous plans for Manchester United, but “the best-laid schemes o’ mice an’ men gang aft agley.”

The club reportedly tried to help their stars avoid injuries by managing workloads, using sweat patches to monitor hydration levels during training, and installing ice baths next to the swimming pool on the hotel rooftop.

Despite these well-thought-out plans, Manchester United still suffered significant injury setbacks. Forward Hojlund will be out for six weeks, while new center-back Renny Jolo is set to miss three months. Recently, Manchester United announced that Jolo’s foot surgery was successful.

Throughout the summer friendlies, Manchester United were plagued with fitness issues. Apart from Hojlund and Jolo, Rashford and Antony also limped off the pitch, fortunately without any serious concerns.

Last season, Manchester United endured a nightmare with injuries in the first team, with Maguire, Lisandro Martinez, Malacia, Luke Shaw, Hojlund, and many others missing parts or the entirety of the season. Ten Hag repeatedly complained about this in the media, and it seems like history is repeating itself in the 2024/25 season.

In the 2024 summer friendlies, Manchester United played five games and ended up with two wins and three losses. They lost to Rosenborg, Arsenal, and Liverpool, but won against Rangers and Real Betis. On August 10th, Manchester United will face Manchester City in the Community Shield match.
