On June 24, according to Spanish newspaper Marca, Atletico Madrid’s home ground, the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium, is tipped to be the venue for the 2028 UEFA Champions League final.
It is reported that the Spanish capital has previously hosted significant decisive events, such as the old European Cup or the UEFA Champions League, four times in 1957, 1969, 1980, and 2010. Traditionally, the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, home of city rivals and La Liga giants Real Madrid, has been the preferred venue. Hence, the sixth final in Madrid could potentially see the Metropolitano host for a second time.
The UEFA has already announced that the 2026 final will take place at Budapest’s Puskás Aréna, while Bayern Munich’s Allianz Arena will stage the major event in the 2024/2025 season. In 2027, the San Siro in Milan is expected to host the Champions League final.
For 2028, the Wanda Metropolitano awaits its chance; we shall see.
