The British newspaper, the Daily Mirror, has reported that despite the challenging economic climate in the UK, the prices of Premier League teams’ jerseys have seen a significant surge, drawing widespread attention.
The report highlights that the average price for adult fan versions of the 20 Premier League teams’ jerseys this season has risen to £72.60 (approximately RMB 663), a 53.2% increase from £47.40 a decade ago. The media describes this rise as “jaw-dropping.”
Business experts note that, considering inflation over the past ten years, a more reasonable price would be an average of £63.04 for the 20 Premier League teams’ jerseys. However, the actual prices are significantly higher than this theoretical value.
The jerseys of Chelsea and Tottenham are the most expensive among English clubs for the new season, with their adult fan versions priced at £84.99 and £85.00 (approximately RMB 776) respectively, matching the price of England national team fan jerseys. Their player versions are even more expensive, at £124.99 and £125.00 each.
Following these two teams, seven other clubs—Arsenal, Aston Villa, Fulham, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, and Newcastle United—have set the price for their adult fan jerseys at £80.00 each.
Chelsea also leads in the pricing of junior jerseys, which are priced at £64.99. The junior jerseys of Fulham, Liverpool, Manchester City, and West Ham United are sold at £60.00 each, while Tottenham’s junior jersey is priced at £55.00.
The increase in jersey prices in the Premier League has had an impact on lower leagues as well. For example, the adult fan version of Sheffield Wednesday’s jersey in the Championship is priced at £69.00, while Leeds United’s jersey is sold for £65.00, causing some controversy due to the high prices.
