Multiple British Media: Southgate to Stay Regardless of England’s Euro Cup Win—FA Seeks Contract Extension Until 2026

Multiple British Media: Southgate to Stay Regardless of England's Euro Cup Win—FA Seeks Contract Extension Until 2026According to multiple British media outlets, regardless of whether Gareth Southgate leads England to victory in the Euro Cup, the Football Association (FA) hopes to extend his contract, at least until the next World Cup in 2026.

Gareth Southgate’s contract with the FA is due to end in December 2024. Before the start of the Euro Cup, rumors even linked Southgate to the managerial position at Manchester United. Although Ten Hag successfully remained with the Red Devils, it was widely believed that Southgate would most likely not continue with the England team before England reached the Euro Cup final.

However, with England’s incredible advance into the Euro Cup final and Southgate’s consecutive two finals with the team, both the FA and English fans’ attitudes have undergone a dramatic change.

The FA had actually devised contingency plans before the Euro Cup but has now shelved them, hoping that Southgate will stay on with the team. The FA CEO, Brianham, stated, “We recognize the work Southgate has done; he has indeed performed exceptionally well. He has not only transformed us on the pitch but also made clear efforts off the pitch.”

The FA hopes that Southgate will remain in his role at least until the conclusion of the next World Cup. This is a recognition of Southgate’s outstanding performance in the Euro Cup. However, Southgate has been tight-lipped, not revealing whether he is willing to continue coaching the England team.
