On July 9, according to multiple media reports, Turkish giants Besiktas have entered further negotiations with Argentine international Angel Di Maria over the finer details of a contract. The “Angel” is expected to make the switch to the Turkish league, with an official announcement set to follow after the Copa America.
It was Spanish newspaper AS that first broke the news regarding Di Maria’s destination, with Portuguese publication Record and Turkish sports newspaper Fanatik following up with their own reports.
It’s understood that Besiktas has offered the now free agent Di Maria a one-year contract worth €5 million annually, making a concerted effort to push through the transfer.
Besiktas is looking to bolster its squad this summer in the transfer market in order to challenge Galatasaray’s title next season. In addition to Di Maria, the “Black Eagles” have also made contact with Lazio’s Ciro Immobile.
The 36-year-old Di Maria’s contract with Benfica expired on June 30 of this year. Currently, the player is with the Argentine national team in the United States for the Copa America. On July 10, Argentina will face Canada in the Copa America semi-finals.
