On September 20th, at the pre-match press conference before Shanghai Port’s away game against Changchun Yatai, Muscat addressed Slutsky’s previous comments regarding Jiang Guangtai’s injury.
Muscat responded, “To be honest, I was very surprised by this. Our entire focus is on tomorrow’s match. As professionals in football, when a professional from one club comments on another club’s professionals, it surprises me and I find it very unnecessary and disrespectful.”
“For our club, we never comment on other clubs’ players. We focus on ourselves and maintain respect for others. Moreover, during our last match, we invited the head coach of that club to watch the game, hoping to show our hospitality. But such comments and actions make us feel disrespected in return. Of course, ultimately, our attention remains focused on tomorrow’s match.”
Slutsky was invited to watch the AFC Champions League match against Johor Darul Ta’zim at the Port’s home ground this week. At the pre-match press conference before facing Tianjin Jinmen Tiger, he said, “There’s one thing that impressed me deeply. During the national team matches, I noticed that Port player Jiang Guangtai had to be substituted due to an injury, but later when he returned to his club, he not only started in two games but played the full duration of both.”
