Nadal Bids Farewell to the Olympics: I Will Let You Know When I Have to Make the Decision to Retire

August 1st – In the men’s doubles quarterfinals held in the early hours of this morning, the Spanish pair of Nadal & Alcaraz lost 2-6, 4-6 to their American opponents and were eliminated from advancing to the semi-finals. After the match, this four-time Olympian and double Olympic gold medalist discussed his future.

“Next, I need to take a break from tennis and spend some time with my family resting. The goal I set for myself was the Olympics, and now that it’s over, I need to go home and calmly analyze things, see how much energy and desire I still have. If there isn’t motivation to continue playing, then I will choose to retire. Once I have a clear idea about my future, whether or not I continue playing, I will let you know.”

When asked if he would participate in the upcoming US Open, Nadal said, “It doesn’t look like I will play, but I can’t give a definite answer yet. I need some time, and when I make a decision, I will tell you. But right now, it looks pretty unlikely that I’ll play in the US Open.”

“Is today my last appearance on Court Philippe-Chatrier? It could be, I don’t know. If it is the last one, it will be with unforgettable thoughts. The audience has given me so much love, the fans have given me so much love, and every second I spent on the court was filled with love and support.”
