Newcastle Official: Former Birmingham Goalkeeper John Ruddy Signs on a Free Transfer

On July 1st, Newcastle released a statement announcing the signing of goalkeeper John Ruddy on a free transfer from Birmingham. The deal sees the 37-year-old commit to a one-year contract.

Ruddy, who came through the youth ranks at Cambridge United, has previously played for Everton, Norwich City, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Birmingham. Between the 11/12 and 15/16 seasons, he served as Norwich’s first-choice goalkeeper in the Premier League, making him no stranger to the competition.

In the last two seasons, Ruddy was Birmingham’s number one goalkeeper, featuring in 87 Championship matches and keeping 25 clean sheets. His contract with Birmingham expired this summer, leading to his departure.
